Indian producer AM Ratnam is remembered for his work in the Tamil and Telugu cinema industries. He has a film production company in Hyderabad called Sri Surya Movies Entertainment, where he has produced Telugu language blockbusters like Karthavyam (1990), Peddarikam (1992), Sneham Kosam (1999), and Kushi (2001).
With the hit movie Indian, which served as India’s official submission for the Best Foreign Language Film category at the Academy Awards, he made his debut in the Tamil film industry in 1996.

On August 26, 1988, AM Ratnam wed actress Suhasini Maniratnam. His family resides in Alwarpet, a neighborhood in Chennai, where he also owns and operates Madras Talkies.
Jyothi Krishna, a director and actress, and Ravi Krishna, a performer, are Ratnam’s two sons. All four of Ravi Krishna’s films, which also include Jyothi Krishna’s second directorial effort, “Kedi,” were produced by Ratnam, including Jyothi Krishna’s directorial debut “Enakku 20 Unakku 18” and its Telugu adaptation. He constructed a Shirdi Sai Baba temple at his workplace in Valasaravakkam in 2012.

Ratnam began his professional life working as Vijayashanti’s go-to makeup artist. He produced his debut movie, “Karthavyam,” in 1990 while serving as the actress’ executive producer. For this movie, Vijayashanti received the National Award for Best Actress.
He collaborated on movies with several stars, including Kamal Haasan, Vijay, Ajith Kumar, Chiranjeevi, and Vikram. Later, after dubbing and making multiple films in different languages, he started creating films in Tamil and Hindi as well.
He also funded films, including “Nayak: The Real Hero,” “Sneham Kosam,” starring Chiranjeevi, and “Indian,” which won Shankar the Filmfare Award for Best Film – Tamil and was later nominated for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film by India. Vijay and Pawan Kalyan starred in S. J. Surya’s extremely popular Tamil romance “Kushi,” which Ratnam also produced in the same year’s Telugu version with the same title.

Later, he produced the Vijay-starring movies “Ghilli” and “Sivakasi.” At the box office, Ghilli and Sivakasi both achieved great success. He directed two Telugu movies, “Peddarikam” and “Sankalpam,” in the early 1990s.

Additionally, he wrote the screenplay for the movie “Naaga.” Later, he renamed his production firm Shri Sai Raam Creations from Sri Surya Movies Entertainment under the direction of S. Aishwarya. He collaborated on three successful movies with Ajith Kumar, including “Arrambam,” “Yennai Arindhaal,” and “Vedalam.”
