Assam CM Meets Bhutan’s King to Strengthen Bilateral Ties

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, along with his wife Riniki Bhuyan Sarma, had the privilege of meeting His Majesty the King of Bhutan, Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck, and Her Majesty The Gyaltsuen Jetsun Pema at The Golden Throne Room in Tashichhodzong, Thimphu.

Expressing gratitude on behalf of the people of Assam and India, the Chief Minister thanked Their Majesties for the warm hospitality extended during the visit.

During the meeting, the Chief Minister updated His Majesty on the progress of initiatives to enhance connectivity between India and Bhutan. He highlighted the transformative potential of Bhutan’s Gelephu Mindfulness City, a visionary project led by His Majesty, which is expected to boost the region’s economic growth.

Chief Minister Sarma also conveyed Assam’s interest in exploring collaborative opportunities with Bhutan, particularly in areas such as trade, energy, irrigation, and drinking water facilities for border communities. Discussions also focused on strengthening people-to-people ties and leveraging shared cultural heritage for mutual benefit.

This engagement marks a significant step in fostering deeper ties and collaborative efforts between Assam and Bhutan.
