Fans criticized Justin for comments he made about his ex-girlfriend after the two of them broke up, including his apparent likeness to Britney in the music video he made for “Cry Me a River,” which he released in 2002. The documentary had its world premiere in February 2021. In his statement, Justin also apologized to Janet Jackson for the incident between the two of them during the 2004 Halftime Show. He stated that he “cared for” and “respected” both women.
In a statement he released in February of 2021, he said, “I specifically want to apologize to Britney Spears and Janet Jackson both individually because I care for and respect these women and I know I failed.” He added, “I know I failed.” “I also feel compelled to respond, partly because everyone involved deserves better and most importantly because this is a larger conversation that I wholeheartedly want to be a part of and grow from,” she said. “I hope that by doing so, we can all learn from one another and move forward.”
The former member of N’Sync went on to say that he “did not want to ever benefit from others being pulled down again.” He is married to Jessica Biel, whom he wed in 2012. He went on to say, “I am aware that my apology is only a first step and does not excuse my actions in the past. I want to be a part of a world that lifts people up and provides support, but at the same time I want to accept responsibility for my own mistakes in all of this.”
