Bacharach first worked with Hal David, a songwriter, in 1957. Soon after, they started writing songs together, including “The Story of My Life,” which Marty Robbins covered and which peaked at number one on the US Country Chart.
The pair continued to produce songs like “Make it Easy on Yourself” by Jerry Butler and “Magic Moments,” sung by Perry Como. Bacharach and David co-wrote more than 100 songs throughout the early 1960s.
With Dionne Warwick, they had one of their most successful collaborations, penning such well-known songs as “Don’t Make Me Over,” “Walk on By,” “Alfie,” “I Say a Little Prayer,” and “I’ll Never Fall in Love Again.”

Bacharach wed Paula Stewart, an actress, as his first wife in 1953. In 1958, the couple got a divorce. Bacharach later married Angie Dickinson, an actress, with whom he had a daughter named Nikki. Nikki, who struggled with Asperger’s syndrome, committed herself in 2007.
The couple separated in 1980. The lyricist Carole Bayer Sager was Bacharach’s third wife; they had a son named Christopher and were married for nine years until divorcing in 1991.
