On March 9, 1954, in Knoxville, Tennessee, Jim and Cynthia Haslam gave birth to James Arthur Haslam III. In 1958, his father founded the Pilot Oil Corporation, which in 2020 would merge with the insolvent Flying J to form Pilot Flying J. Bill Haslam, his younger brother, would lead Tennessee as governor from 2011 to 2019.
When Jimmy was a student at the University of Tennessee, Bob Corker, who would later become a senator of the United States, shared a room with him.
Jimmy Haslam Business Career
In 1976, Jimmy started working for Pilot Corporation as the vice president of operations, sales, and development. The truck stop chain would grow to be one of the biggest businesses in the country, with its corporate headquarters in Knoxville.
When Haslam was appointed president and chief executive officer in 1996, Pilot had expanded to run 96 travel centers and 50 convenience stores since it originally opened its travel center in 1981. Pilot Company founded Pilot Travel Centers LLC in 2001 in partnership with Marathon Ashland Petroleum LLC.

Philanthropy and Awards
By holding positions on the boards of Anderson Media Corporation and United Way of Greater Knoxville, Jimmy Haslam continued to be involved in his native Tennessee. Also, he served as the Boys & Girls Clubs of Cleveland campaign committee’s honorary chair.
He received the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year award for the Southeast area in 2010 and was inducted into the Junior Achievement of East Tennessee Business Hall of Fame in 2007. He received the Distinguished Alumni Award from the University of Tennessee in 2013. Jimmy was a founding member of the university’s Haslam Scholars Program for honors students.

Along with his wife, Susan “Dee” Bagwell Haslam, the CEO of RIVR Media, Jimmy resides in Cleveland, Ohio. James Bagwell Haslam (adopted in 2016), Whitney Haslam Johnson, and Cynthia Haslam Arnholt are their three adult children. In addition, they have five grandkids.
