Joyce DeWitt “The Vintage Comedy Legend”!!

Born on April 23, 1949,  DeWitt started to perform on stage at the age of 13. She is an American Comedy Legend best known for her role as Janet Wood in Three’s Company from 1977 to 1984. Her sense of humor was widely appreciated by people all over the American Television Community.

Talking about her personal life, Her mother was Italian while her father was Dutch. She is of mixed descent. Her birthplace is wheeling, West Virginia but she was grown up in Speedway, Indiana where she completed her graduation from Speedway Senior High School. Her first work was as an apprentice at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Ticket office which gave her a spark to earn.

She earned her name and fame from the famous TV Show Three’s Company which came to an end in 1984. After the show ended, she was famous enough to grab any role she wanted in the industry but she opted to take a rest for several years after featuring in an episode of Finder of Lost Loves in 1984. Her acting career started again in a production of Noises Off in June 1991.

She preferred her comedy line over the time again in 1995 in a film named Spring Fling!. She also made a special appearance in 1997 in an episode of Cybil. Her career obtained rapid growth in the 2000s when she worked on TV shows such as Hope Island, The Nick at Nite Holiday Special, and Call of the Wild. These TV shows were a huge success. DeWitt was not an unknown face anymore in America. Her popularity as a Comedian is still hard to achieve. 

DeWitt appeared in Suzanne Somers’ talk show, Suzanne Somers: Breaking Through. During the ongoing show, She and Somers remembered their time on Three’s Company. Somers apologized for the quarrels and disputes between them during the live show. They both were involved in a Salary Dispute 31 years earlier after which they both never talked to each other. They met again in 2012 and exchanged anecdotes.

In 2018, DeWitt appeared yet again on stage, playing Mother Superior in “Nunsense” at the Hunterdon Hills Playhouse in New Jersey. Later that year, DeWitt landed the role of Detective Randi Toney in the film “The Savant.” Other films and works of DeWitt include “The Great Fight,” “Snapshot,” “My Boyfriend’s Dogs,” “Rock Story,”

Joyce has been a private person since her career started. She has never been married in her life but once dated Randolph Mantooth and she was in a relationship with actor/director Ray Buktenica from 1973 to 1980.

Once DeWitt was booked under drunk driving in El Segundo, California on July 4, 2009. This was the first time she got arrested in her career. She drove past a barricade and showed signs of drinking. She also failed the alcohol test after which she was pulled over. On May 27, 2010, she was sent to a nine-month alcohol addiction program to get rid of her alcohol-consuming habit.

Reports claim that she left the showbiz due to personal issues with the producers. It is rumored that she is being mistreated by the producers over sets. But these myths were busted as the actress made a comeback appearing in a number of movies in the new millennium including 2001’s 18 and 2009’s Call of the Wild.
