She also owns a 35,000-square-foot (3,300-square-meter) house on Mount Desert Island in Seal Harbor, Maine, known as ‘Skylands,’ the old vacation retreat of automotive inventor and industrialist Edsel Ford, with grounds built by famous landscape architect Jens Jensen (1922).

Her parents were both teachers, and her father went on to work as a pharmaceutical salesperson. Stewart’s family relocated to Nutley, New Jersey when he was three years old. As her Catholic confirmation name, she chose “Grace.” Stewart began babysitting the children of New York Yankees stars Mickey Mantle, Yogi Berra, and Gil McDougald when she was 10 years old.
Mickey and Merlyn Mantle had four boys, for whom Stewart provided babysitting and birthday party planning. She started modeling as well. Stewart appeared in a television ad for Unilever when she was 15 years old. She later appeared in television commercials and magazine ads, including one of Tareyton’s “Smokers would rather fight than switch!” cigarette adverts. During her undergraduate years, she supplemented her scholarship money with “modeling gigs for $50 per hour — which was a lot of money at the time.” Chanel was one of her customers.

The business was initially profitable, but Collier said Stewart was tough to deal with and was also doing catering on the side. Stewart quickly acquired Collier’s stake in the company.
