Meisha fought Muay Thai expert Elizabeth Posener in her first amateur bout in March 2006. Tate was 5-1 as an amateur before making the jump to the pros. She debuted in MMA in the paid circuit in November of 2007. She won the FCF Women’s Bantamweight Championship in April 2009 by virtue of a victory over Liz Carreiro. As a result of her victory over Valerie Coolbaugh the following year, Tate was crowned champion.

Back in June of 2008, she signed on with Strikeforce. In her first match, she had a decisive victory over Elaina Maxwell.
