Kurtha-Bijalpura Rail Section of Jaynagar-Bijalpura-Bardibas Project Inaugurated. The cross-border railway connection between India and Nepal, the Kurtha-Bijalpura rail section of the Jaynagar-Bijalpura-Bardibas project, has become operational from Sunday.
The launch ceremony was attended by the Minister of Physical Infrastructure and Transport, Prakash Jwala, along with political leaders, representatives of the Government of Nepal (GoN), and Deputy Chief of Mission of the Embassy of India in Kathmandu, Prasanna Shrivastava.
Handed over to the GoN during Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal’s recent visit to India, the Kurtha-Bijalpura line covers a total distance of 17.3 km and includes five stations: Kurtha, Pipradi, Loharpatti, Singyahi, and Bijalpura.

The ongoing land acquisition process is underway for the third phase, which will connect Bijalpura to Bardibas. Minister Jwala expressed gratitude to the Government of India for their continuous support in Nepal’s infrastructure development, particularly in the rail sector.

He emphasized that the newly established rail connectivity will significantly enhance people-to-people linkages, boost trade, and promote tourism in Nepal. DCM Shrivastava also highlighted the Government of India’s commitment to strengthening the development partnership for the mutual benefit of both countries citizens.
The implementation of this rail project will bring reliable, affordable, and fast transportation to previously underserved areas in Nepal. It is part of a series of connectivity projects being undertaken by India in Nepal, contributing to enhanced physical connectivity between the two nations and aligning with India’s Neighbourhood First policy.
This milestone represents a significant step forward in deepening bilateral ties and fostering greater cooperation between Nepal and India.
