His father is a renowned Indian journalist, writer, and professor at the National Tribal University, Amarkantak. His father, Madhuker Upadhyay, worked at Hindi BBC Radio in London and Delhi during the initial years of his journalism career.

In March 2021, Sanket Upadhyay shared an old picture on social media, depicting a journey he took with his father and sister, where they walked 390 km in 1994 along the Dandi route. Sanket Upadhyay’s career in journalism began when he joined Hindustan Times as a Staff Writer in August 2003.
