After receiving calls to boycott the app for hosting a musician who is supposedly a Khalistani sympathizer, BookMyShow on Wednesday canceled the India tour of Punjabi-Canadian singer Shubhneet Singh. BookMyShow has promised a full refund of ticket prices within 7-10 days in a post on X (formerly known as Twitter).

The Indian leg of singer Shubhneet Singh’s Still Rollin tour has been postponed. Therefore, BookMyShow has begun fully refunding the ticket price for any customers who have made a purchase for this event. Within 7-10 business days, the customer’s original method of payment will be credited with the refund.

Many people are tweeting with the hashtag #UninstallBookMyShow

Earlier in the day, a #UninstallBookMyShow was trending on X, with some users claiming that Shubh, the singer’s stage name, is a ‘Khalistani’ who backs separatist leaders.

After Trudeau’s comments, tensions rose between India and Canada

The two countries had just exchanged senior diplomats after resolving their diplomatic dispute. In June of this year, Hardeep Singh Nijjar, a 45-year-old Sikh separatist leader, was murdered in British Columbia. Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has blamed New Delhi for the murder. The Canadian claim was instantly deemed ridiculous by India.

The trade discussions between the two countries have been put on hold as a result of the escalating dispute.

Where does Shubh come from?

The song “Still Rollin” by up-and-coming Punjabi rapper Shubh gained widespread attention after being featured on numerous Instagram highlight reels. His debut hit, “We Rollin,” was released in 2021, and as of 2023, it had over 201,000,000 views on YouTube.

He just published his first album, titled “Still Rollin,” and announced he will be performing in 10 locations around India and on a cruise this year. BookMyShow supported the band on their Indian tour.
