Richard Belzer Early Life
On August 4, 1944, Richard Belzer entered the world in Bridgeport, Connecticut. His parents, Charles and Frances, were devout Jews. He and his brother Leonard had to use comedy to avoid physical punishment from their mother, so he could escape her notice.
After finishing high school at Fairfield Warde, Belzer went to work as a reporter for the Bridgeport Post. At Franklin, Massachusetts’ Dean College, Belzer tried to further his education but was eventually expelled. After that, he did a bunch of different things, including doing the census. It was in 1968 that Belzer’s dad took his own life.

Belzer began his career in the entertainment industry in the early 1970s as a stand-up comedian in New York City. Catch a Rising Star, the Improv, and Pips were all venues he played at in the city.
Belzer also appeared on “Saturday Night Live” on multiple occasions between the years 1975 and 1980, often as the show’s opening comedian.
Richard Belzer Television Career
The first season of Belzer’s show, The Richard Belzer Show, aired in 1984. Following that, he had appearances on “Moonlighting,” “Miami Vice,” and “Tattingers” episodes. In the 1990s, Belzer started making regular appearances on television. In the early 2000s, he began his career as a news reporter on “The Flash,” a CBS comedy.
