Update on Russell Gage’s Injury: After taking a blow to the head late in the fourth quarter of the NFC wild-card game that the Buccaneers were playing against the Cowboys on Monday night, Buccaneers wide receiver Russell Gage had to be carried off the field on a stretcher before the game could continue.

At the Dallas 7-yard line, Gage was brought down by a defender as he attempted to make a sliding catch. After taking the blow, Gage went down to the ground and appeared to make an effort to get up, but he was unable to remove himself from the playing field. Both teams came off the sidelines to encircle Gage as medical personnel examined him while he was in the middle of the play.

The Buccaneers’ quarterback, Tom Brady, attempted a pass to Gage over the middle of the field with a little under three minutes remaining in the game. The pass could not be completed. Gage was brought down by Donovan Wilson of Dallas, who was attempting to stop the play.

Gage struggled to pull himself up and off the grass but was ultimately unsuccessful. The medical personnel rushed out onto the field and attended to him for a few minutes before signaling for the cart to be brought out. After some time, he was carried off the field on a stretcher, loaded onto a cart, and taken away from the arena.

After the game, Head Coach Todd Bowles revealed to the media that he had been transported to a nearby hospital to be examined for possible neck injuries. He stated that Gage had sustained a head injury as a result of the play.

Bowles made the observation that Gage did, in fact, have movement in all of his extremities.
