Even though Demon Slayer isn’t a very romantic show, most of the key characters have found love by the end of the series. Still, the manga never says for sure that any of these pairs are together. Instead, it gives us hints that we can use to figure out the truth.
This has made many people wonder if Tanjiro and Kanao have ended up together. Even though they have a lot in common, the manga doesn’t spend a lot of time building them up as a couple.
What happens then? Does Kanao die? Do they get married? Find out by reading our article about Demon Slayer!
Demon Slayer: Does Kanao Die?
Kanao doesn’t die in Demon Slayer. During the Infinity Castle Arc, it seems like she might die, but she lives until the end of the book. Even though they are badly hurt, Kanao and Inosuke work together to fight Doma and get Shinobu’s revenge. They win thanks to Shinobu’s sacrifice.
It came down to the wire, and it seemed unlikely that Kanao could fight an Upper Rank Two demon and still win. But before she died, Shinobu gave Doma seven hundred times the normal amount of a drug that would kill her and told Kanao that she could kill him.
When Kanao figured out what Shinobu was trying to say, she didn’t waste a second before cutting Doma’s head off. After the fight, Kanao returned to the rest of the group and helped them prepare for their last stand.

What Happened With Kanao?
Kanao can talk, but she doesn’t usually. Kanao’s parents often beat and starved her before they sold her to slavers. The effects of this broke Kanao’s mind. By age 5, he stopped talking and answered most talks with just one word.
Even after Kanae and Shinobu saved her, Kanao still had trouble talking and looked almost catatonic. Shinobu seemed upset with the child, but Kanae was still kind and patient.
After Kanae died, Shinobu took over her job and treated Kanao with the same motherly love. She taught Kanao how to be a Demon Slayer; over time, Kanao started to improve. It took her a long time to fully recover, but by the end of the manga, Kanao was saying a lot more than she used to:

This was mainly because she had become friends with Tanjiro and his friends.
Does Tanjiro Marry Kanao?
After the end of Demon Slayer, Tanjiro gets married to Kanao. In chapter 205, we meet the children and grandchildren of all of the important characters who lived through the fight with Muzan. Kanata and Sumihiko Kamado are two of them.
They are the great-grandchildren of Tanjiro and Kanao. Even though it’s never been said for sure, it’s clear that Tanjiro and Kanao fell in love sometime after they saw each other again under the cherry blossoms and finally got married:

They went on to live a peaceful life without being bothered by devils. Their friends and children loved and cared for them. We also get introduced to the great-grandchildren of Zenitsu and Nezuko, Yoshiteru and Toko Agatsuma, and Aoba Hashibara, the great-grandson of Aoi and Inosuke Hashibara.
There are reincarnations of characters like Kanae and Shinobu, as well as Rengoku, Giyu, and Tengen, who are the children of the Hashira family.
When Did Kanao and Tanjiro Begin to Like Each Other?
Even though Tanjiro and Kanao liked each other early in the story, they didn’t get together until after the war against Muzan and his Twelve Upper Moon. The manga ended with them going their different ways, Tanjiro to his old house and Kanao to the Butterfly Mansion.
It’s not clear how things went from there, but everything seemed to work out in the end. By the time the war was over, both Kanao and Tanjiro had lost most of their sight, and they seemed to have the same kinds of problems as everyone else. This likely brought them closer together and helped them bond.

What was Demon Slayer Climax?
At the end of Kimetsu No Yaiba, Tanjiro kills Muzan, which gets rid of all demons. Soon after that, most of the Demon Slayers’ swordsmen have already died, so the group has no reason to keep going.
Tanjiro is still improving at the Butterfly Mansion three months after the end of the war. During the fight, he loses an eye and an arm, but he is still thankful that Nezuko and the other people are not hurt.
Nezuko tells Zenitsu and Inosuke, sitting on his bed with him, that the Cherry Blossom looks beautiful. She looks at her brother’s messy arm and asks him if it hurts. Tanjiro shakes his head and says that he can’t feel his arm below the elbow.
Tanjiro asks Nezuko how she’s doing and tells her he’s sorry he attacked her when he was a monster. She smiles and tells him she’s fine and that he doesn’t need to say sorry. It turns out that Shinobu’s drugs helped Tanjiro turn back into a human, and Nezuko didn’t turn back into a demon because her body had built up a resistance to Muzan’s cells.
On the other hand, Kanao’s right eye is almost completely blind. She used her final form to fight Doma, which made the demon’s moves look like they were happening in slow motion. However, the strain on her eye caused most of the blood vessels in her eye to burst, which made her partially blind.
When Tanjiro goes outside to see the Cherry Blossom, he runs into Kanao under it. Kanao tells him that the tree is called “Victory” and that it was planted by the first person to use Flower Breath. She also says that she went outside to tell the tree that Muzan has been beaten.
Tanjiro asks her how she’s doing, and as he does, Kaburamaru, Obanai Iguro’s pet snake, slips out of her collar. She tells Tanjiro that Sanemi gave her Kaburamaru as a guide. In the end, the two people go their different ways. Not for long, though.
