Sidhu Moosewala, a well-known Punjabi singer and rapper who had joined the Congress before the Punjab elections, was shot and killed in Jawaharke village, Mansa district, by people who don’t know who they are. Dr. Ranjeet Rai, the civil surgeon at Mansa Hospital, confirmed that he had died.

Sidhu Moosewala ran for the Punjab assembly as a Congress candidate from Mansa. He lost by a huge margin of 63,000 votes to the AAP candidate Vijay Singla. Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann recently fired Vijay Singla because of corruption allegations.

In his new song “Scapegoat,” which came out last month, Sidhu Moosewala made fun of the Aam Aadmi Party and its supporters. This caused some trouble. In his song, the singer was said to have called AAP supporters “gaddars,” which means “traitors.”

Chandigarh: Aam Aadmi Party candidate Vijay Singla defeated Congress contender Shubhdeep Singh Sidhu alias Sidhu Moosewala in the Mansa assembly seat. Navjot Singh Sidhu, the state Congress head, and Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi, both warmly welcomed him when he joined the party last year.

Sidhu Moosewala lost to Vijay Singla by more than 63,000 votes. A total of 36,700 votes were cast for Sidhu Moosewala whereas Mr. Singla received 1,00,023 votes.

Sidhu Moosewala has a lot going for him:

  •  He is from the village of Moosewala in Punjab’s Mansa district. Moosewala’s music videos are well renowned for their use of weapons. Earlier this year, a FIR was filed against the rapper, alleging that his song, “Sanju,” promoted gun culture. Images of him using an AK-47 rifle at a firing range during the COVID-19 lockdown led to the filing of a criminal complaint.
  •  The singer, who is 28 years old, has a large following. His Instagram account has 6.9 million followers, and his YouTube channel has more than 1 million. Because of his popularity, Sidhu Moosewala was chosen by the Congress.
  • A former soldier, Sidhu Moosewala’s father was the village sarpanch, and his mother was a village housewife. As a member of Congress, he holds an electrical engineering degree. Before relocating to Canada, he began studying music in college.  When the farmers in India were protesting against three new federal agriculture policies, Sidhu Moosewala stood up and spoke out.
  •  His campaign was centred on Mansa’s development. Sidhu Moosewala indicated in an interview that education and health care were the two most pressing issues in his community and that he was striving to address them.
