the Zubair-Gupta Twitter Feud

In the realm of social media skirmishes, where words can be as sharp as swords, the clash between Alt News co-founder Mohammed Zubair and social media manager Amritanshu Gupta, responsible for curating the online presence of former cricketers Venkatesh Prasad and Virender Sehwag, recently took center stage. The spat between these two prominent figures has been riddled with allegations, misinterpretations, and even threats. Let’s delve into the crux of this Twitter feud and its implications.

Allegations of Doxxing and Threats

The controversy began when Amritanshu Gupta claimed that Mohammed Zubair had doxxed him, leading to a barrage of “threatening calls” inundating his life. Zubair was not only accused of doing but also of deliberately misrepresenting Gupta’s tweets. Such accusations escalated tensions in the virtual world.

Gupta expressed his frustration on X (formerly Twitter), alleging, “So Mohammad Zubair has ensured I get threatening calls and intimidating messages by deliberately misinterpreting. I have been on Twitter for 14 years, and he could find 3 tweets with ‘Muslim’ keywords search and 1 of them was a sarcastic comment on a journalist citing an article in HT.”

The Genesis of the Zubair-Gupta Dispute

To trace the origins of this heated confrontation, we must rewind to the moment when Mohammed Zubair publicly revealed that Amritanshu Gupta was managing the social media accounts of ex-cricketer Venkatesh Prasad. Zubair’s disclosure came as a response to Prasad’s now-deleted tweet, in which Prasad criticized the alleged mismanagement of the ongoing Asia Cup by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and the Asian Cricket Council.

In a tweet that added fuel to the fire, Zubair listed Gupta’s credentials: “The guy who manages Sehwag’s (Twitter/Insta) account, The guy who manages Venkatesh Prasad’s (Twitter + Insta) account, The guy who once managed Mohammed Kaif’s & Vijender Singh’s account, The guy who once interviewed Smriti Irani…”
