BJP’s Parvesh Verma files complaint against Arvind Kejriwal for alleged MCC violation

Date:

BJP candidate Parvesh Verma has lodged a complaint with Delhi Police against his rival, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Arvind Kejriwal, accusing him of violating the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) by distributing chairs to Resident Welfare Associations (RWAs) in East Kidwai Nagar, part of the New Delhi constituency.

The complaint, filed by Verma’s election agent Sandeep Singh, alleges that the AAP unlawfully distributed chairs to RWAs in the area, describing the act as a blatant disregard for the MCC.

Verma’s office labeled this act as “bribing voters with material goods,” claiming it violates the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), the Prevention of Corruption Act, and election rules.

The complaint also mentions video evidence purportedly showing an AAP worker distributing chairs from a trolley, allegedly under Kejriwal’s direction.

“The worker admitted to being sent by Arvind Kejriwal to distribute these items,” the BJP alleged, calling it a cognizable offence.

The BJP has demanded strict action, urging authorities to file an FIR against Kejriwal and his associates for corrupt practices and violations of the MCC, Representation of People (RP) Act, and other laws. “Such unethical actions have no place in a democracy,” the complaint stated.

The Delhi Assembly election is set for February 5, with results to be announced on February 8. This incident highlights the escalating tensions between the BJP and AAP as the high-stakes polls approach.
