BJP’s Vijender Gupta accuses AAP of suppressing CAG reports to hide corruption

Date:

Leader of the Opposition in the Delhi Assembly and BJP MLA Vijender Gupta on Sunday accused the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government of deliberately suppressing Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) reports to conceal financial mismanagement and corruption.

Gupta criticized the government for withholding the reports for as long as 497 days, describing it as a calculated attempt to evade accountability.

He demanded the immediate convening of a special Delhi Assembly session to table all 14 CAG reports, followed by detailed discussions on their findings. “A special committee should be formed to investigate the reports, and action must be taken against officials responsible for this unprecedented delay,” Gupta asserted.

The remarks came a day after the Lieutenant Governor’s office confirmed that all 14 CAG reports had been forwarded by the Finance Minister for approval and subsequently approved by the LG.

Gupta emphasized that Delhi residents deserve to know how public funds were utilized. He accused the AAP government of submitting the reports at the last minute to avoid public and legislative scrutiny. “This hasty move shows an attempt to hide financial irregularities and evade accountability,” he said.

According to Gupta, the reports cover critical areas, including vehicular air pollution mitigation, care and protection of children, liquor regulation and supply, health infrastructure, management of health services, and the functioning of the Delhi Transport Corporation.

“Eleven of these 14 reports pertain to the period when Arvind Kejriwal was Chief Minister, highlighting important governance issues. Many of these reports have been gathering dust for years, reflecting a complete disregard for constitutional duties and democratic principles,” Gupta added.

He further stated that the 497-day delay in submitting these reports underscores a breakdown of financial accountability in the Delhi government, calling it a serious lapse in governance.
