AAP national convenor Arvind Kejriwal on Thursday met the Election Commissioner to submit complaints against BJP candidate Parvesh Verma, contesting from the New Delhi constituency.
Addressing the media after the meeting, Kejriwal alleged that Verma was flagrantly violating the Model Code of Conduct while election authorities, under BJP pressure, were not taking action.
“He is distributing money, organizing job camps, registering youth, distributing glasses, and openly posting about it on X. These actions are illegal. He should be disqualified, and police should raid his house to uncover the money he is using,” Kejriwal said.
The AAP chief also accused the BJP of orchestrating mass applications from various constituencies, including New Delhi, to delete thousands of AAP supporters’ names from the electoral rolls.
Earlier in the day, Kejriwal dismissed BJP claims that he might contest the Delhi Assembly elections from two seats due to fear of losing in New Delhi. He clarified, “I am contesting from one seat only.”
A three-time MLA from New Delhi since 2013, Kejriwal faces a tough triangular contest this time against Parvesh Verma, son of former Delhi CM Sahib Singh Verma, and Sandeep Dikshit, son of three-term CM Sheila Dikshit, fielded by Congress.
BJP IT cell chief Amit Malviya had earlier alleged that Kejriwal was making baseless claims about voter list issues in New Delhi and planning to contest from two constituencies out of fear of defeat.
Kejriwal also emphasized that the Delhi polls are a direct contest between AAP and BJP, not linked to the INDIA bloc. While thanking INDIA allies like TMC, SP, and Shiv Sena (UBT) for their support, he noted that Congress, which leads the bloc, is contesting independently in Delhi, having announced 48 candidates so far.
