Former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Wednesday accused the Delhi Police of aiding the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) election campaign against the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in the capital.
Speaking at a joint press conference with Delhi CM Atishi, Kejriwal alleged collusion between the BJP and the police, claiming it undermines public security.
Kejriwal stated, “The Delhi Police is working for the BJP. An SHO told me they receive direct instructions from the Ministry of Home Affairs to disrupt our rallies.
The people of Delhi must unite and give the BJP a strong response. I fear voters might be prevented from casting their votes this time.”
He claimed the BJP is headed for a “historic defeat” in Delhi, which he said explains their alleged hooliganism with police support. “Police are facilitating BJP’s campaign by disrupting AAP’s election efforts,” Kejriwal added.
Atishi raised similar concerns, accusing BJP workers of intimidating AAP volunteers in Kalkaji, where she is seeking reelection.
She alleged that BJP workers, including those claiming to be relatives of rival BJP candidate Ramesh Bidhuri, are obstructing AAP’s door-to-door campaign.
“Atishi alleged that Bidhuri called an AAP worker, urging her to rejoin the BJP. When she refused, he labeled AAP a ‘party of terrorists’ and claimed Atishi would be jailed after February 8,” she said.
Atishi further alleged widespread harassment of AAP workers and demanded action. “Bidhuri and his associates are not contesting elections but spreading hooliganism.
We will file a complaint with the Election Commission for an FIR and strict action against them,” she stated.
The Delhi assembly elections are scheduled for February 5, with results to be announced on February 8. AAP is seeking a third consecutive term after its 2020 victory, where it won 62 of 70 seats.
