On her 69th birthday, Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) president and former four-time Uttar Pradesh chief minister Mayawati outlined her party’s roadmap for the upcoming Delhi assembly elections, focusing on migrant voters from Uttar Pradesh and Bihar.
Speaking at a press conference in Lucknow, she urged voters to recall the hardships faced during the COVID-19 crisis and support a party that prioritizes inclusive governance, positioning the BSP as a viable alternative in Delhi.
Mayawati emphasized her party’s readiness to contest the elections and predicted surprising outcomes if the process remains free from manipulation.
Expressing concerns about potential electoral malpractice, particularly tampering with electronic voting machines (EVMs), she called for a fair election.
Criticizing both the BJP-led central government and the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government in Delhi, she accused them of neglecting the needs of migrant communities during the pandemic, treating them as second-class citizens.
She urged voters to reject parties that have failed to deliver on their promises and rely on divisive tactics during campaigns.
Mayawati also called on the Election Commission to ensure communal elements do not influence the election, condemning the “politics of fear and false promises” practiced by the BJP, AAP, and Congress.
Highlighting her tenure as U.P. chief minister, she claimed her public welfare schemes were genuine efforts to uplift marginalized communities, unlike other states that imitate them without sincerity.
Invoking Dr. B.R. Ambedkar’s legacy, she reminded voters of a BJP MP’s recent disrespect toward him in Parliament, urging them to choose leaders who truly uphold Ambedkar’s values.
Dismissing the INDIA coalition as a self-serving alliance, Mayawati asserted that the BSP remains the only genuine alternative to the BJP, committed to social justice and the welfare of all.
