“Open the Strait or Face Destruction”: Trump’s Fiery Warning to Iran Escalates Tensions

Date:

US President Donald Trump has issued a sharp and controversial warning to Iran, threatening to target key infrastructure like power plants and bridges if Tehran fails to reopen the crucial Strait of Hormuz within his deadline.

In a strongly worded social media post, Trump reiterated his earlier warning of unleashing “hell,” demanding that Iran allow free passage of global shipping through the vital oil route. However, he later told US media that there was still a “good chance” of reaching a deal with Tehran.

Iran Hits Back, Calls Threat ‘Stupid’

Iran was quick to respond, mocking Trump’s ultimatum and calling it “helpless, nervous and stupid.” Senior Iranian military officials also warned that any US attack would trigger severe retaliation, saying “the gates of hell will open.”

Rescue Mission After Fighter Jet Downed

The latest developments came after the US confirmed the successful rescue of a second crew member from a fighter jet shot down over Iran. The operation took place deep inside hostile territory in the mountainous south-western region.

The pilot of the F-15 aircraft had already been rescued shortly after the jet was brought down earlier.

Strait of Hormuz Crisis Deepens

The ongoing conflict has significantly disrupted movement through the Strait of Hormuz — one of the world’s most critical shipping lanes, through which nearly 20% of global oil and gas supplies pass.

Iran’s actions in the region have slowed transit, causing global oil prices to surge and raising concerns about inflation worldwide.

Deadlines, Delays and Escalation

Trump has repeatedly set — and extended — deadlines for Iran to reopen the strait. Initially, he warned of military action in March, but later delayed the move, citing ongoing talks.

His latest post suggested a fresh deadline, extending the timeline further and keeping pressure on Tehran.

Meanwhile, Iran has indicated it may reopen the strait only if it receives compensation for war-related damages, and has hinted at imposing transit charges on ships.

Conflict Spreads Across Region

The broader conflict continues to intensify:

  • Israeli strikes have targeted Iranian infrastructure, including petrochemical facilities and an airport in the southwest
  • Iran has launched drones and missiles at Israel and US allies in the Gulf
  • A missile strike hit a residential building in Haifa, injuring four people
  • Fires broke out at energy facilities in Abu Dhabi, while Kuwait and Bahrain also reported damage to oil and industrial sites

Situation Remains Volatile

With both sides exchanging threats and military actions escalating across the region, the situation remains highly volatile. While diplomatic talks may still be on the table, the coming days are expected to be critical in determining whether tensions ease — or spiral further.
