On Wednesday, a woman accused Indian Secular Front MLA Naushad Siddiqui of “cheating her” in Kolkata by promising to marry her. The Bhangar ISF MLA refuted the claims and accused the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC) of “maligning his image”.
An FIR was filed against Naushad Siddique, the sole MLA for the Indian Secular Front in West Bengal, for reportedly having “sex” with a woman and promising to marry her before the panchayat elections on July 8.
According to a senior officer, the FIR was filed at Bowbazar Police Station after the lady filed a complaint against the lawmaker, claiming that he “wrongfully restrained” her in his office on B B Ganguly Street here about 1.5 years ago and then had “sex with her” on the promise of marriage.
He claimed the MLA had been charged with wrongful imprisonment, rape, and other crimes under the Indian Penal Code.
Siddique “maintained sexual contact with her.”
“We have taken up the investigation against Siddique based on a complaint received from a woman,” the police officer said. The police officer stated that the lady “has also alleged that Siddique continued a sexual relationship with her, making false promises of marriage,” referring to the allegations in the complaint.

The woman first complained at New Town Police Station
The woman reportedly made her initial report to the authorities at the New Town authorities Station. “The Bowbazar Police Station received the complaint along with a forwarding letter of DC, New Town Division, Bidhannagar Police Commissionerate,” he continued.
Ten people have been killed and dozens more injured due to political party skirmishes across the state in the days leading up to the three-tier panchayat elections.
Siddiqui dismissed such claims as a TMC “conspiracy” in media interviews. I haven’t received the complaint or police notice yet. This isn’t new. Dirty politics have hurt me. I was charged with anything from attempted murder to attacking police—41 days in jail. From IPC 302 (murder) to Arms Act, I was set. This was done after the reigning party (TMC) lost to me politically—a new addition.
“I know this is to defame me. A conspiracy. Why would a TMC leader take the woman to police?” Bhangar legislator
