Farmers will march towards Delhi on December 6 to pressure the Center to grant their demands, which include a legal guarantee of MSP for crops, according to a Monday announcement by the Samyukta Kisan Morcha and the Kisan Mazdoor Morcha.
Since the SKM and KMM-led ‘Delhi Chalo’ march was halted by security personnel on February 13, the protesting farmers have been camped at the Shambhu and Khanauri border posts between Punjab and Haryana. KMM leader Sarwan Singh Pandher told the journalists that they had made the decision to travel to Delhi after an extended delay.
Pandher criticized the Center for failing to engage in dialogue with the farmers to hear their concerns. The farmers will travel in groups from Shambhu border to the national capital.
The Bharatiya Kisan Union’s Tejveer Singh stated that the Centre has not had any discussions with them since February 18 and that they have been camped out at the two border posts for 280 days.
The farmers declared last week that they would begin a fast unto death on November 26 and intensify their outrage.
In addition to a legal guarantee of a minimum support price for crops, the farmers are calling for the following: the reinstatement of the Land Acquisition Act of 2013, the waiver of farm debt, a pension for farmers and farm laborers, no hike in electricity rates, the withdrawal of police cases and justice for the victims of the Lakhimpur Kheri violence in 2021, and compensation for the families of farmers who lost their lives during a previous agitation in 2020–21.
