Enforcement Directorate team attacked in Delhi, officer injured

Date:

An Enforcement Directorate (ED) team was reportedly attacked on Thursday while conducting raids in connection with a cybercrime investigation in Delhi. The incident occurred in the Bijwasan area, leaving one additional director injured.

In a statement, the ED revealed that its High-Intensity Unit (HIU) was executing extensive searches targeting prominent chartered accountants allegedly involved in a large-scale cybercrime network operating across the country.

The investigation has exposed a web of illicit fund laundering tied to thousands of cybercrimes, including phishing scams, QR code fraud, and part-time job scams.

During the raid, five individuals attacked the ED team, although one managed to flee the scene. An FIR has been registered against the accused, including Ashok Sharma and his brother, who are believed to be key figures in the case.

The ED’s probe has uncovered significant evidence linking these financial professionals to the laundering of illicit proceeds generated by cybercriminal activities. The searches aim to dismantle the network and hold the perpetrators accountable.

This attack highlights the challenges faced by enforcement agencies in tackling organized cybercrime and financial fraud. Authorities are continuing their efforts to apprehend the suspects and secure critical evidence in the case.
