Delhi Police arrested 415 wanted criminals, including 81 proclaimed offenders, during a two-week special operation in the city’s northwest district from December 1 to 15, 2024, an official confirmed on Monday.
The operation, termed ‘Operation Crackdown,’ involved over 1,500 personnel and aimed to curb criminal activities and enhance public safety ahead of the upcoming Assembly elections, stated Deputy Commissioner of Police (Northwest) Abhishek Dhania.
Of those apprehended, 81 were proclaimed offenders or parole violators. The operation focused on individuals involved in theft, robbery, and serious crimes, leading to the detention of 21 individuals connected to organized crime, including bootlegging, narcotics, gambling, and street offenses.
A total of 61 people were arrested for drug trafficking, while 53 juveniles involved in various criminal cases were detained, with 18 of them linked to serious offenses. Police also deactivated the social media accounts of 67 juveniles to curb the glorification of criminal activities online.
The operation resulted in the seizure of 22 illegal weapons and live cartridges, leading to 15 arrests, while preventive measures were taken against 81 individuals under the Arms Act.
In addition, 31 individuals were arrested in 44 cyber fraud cases, with over Rs 9.5 lakh in fraudulent withdrawals successfully blocked.
A crackdown on smuggling and illegal liquor distribution led to the confiscation of 8,545 liters of illicit liquor and the arrest of 127 individuals. Police also acted on 107 gambling cases, resulting in 127 arrests.
Efforts to tackle snatching crimes resulted in 55 arrests in 73 cases, while over 15,000 preventive arrests were made during the operation. Police also located and arrested 31 out of 51 missing Bad Characters (BCs).
