The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Wednesday criticized the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) following a confrontation between AAP leaders and Delhi Police personnel outside Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s residence.
BJP MP Sudhanshu Trivedi described the events as a “clear display of anarchy,” accusing AAP of attempting to deflect attention from allegations of corruption related to the CM’s official bungalow, referred to by the BJP as the “Sheesh Mahal.”
Trivedi remarked, “The reality of the monument of corruption is being revealed to the people. No matter what AAP leaders Sanjay Singh and Saurabh Bharadwaj do, they cannot defend Arvind Kejriwal’s ‘museum of corruption.’ Their actions today highlight irresponsible and anarchic behavior.”
The controversy arose after AAP leaders, including Delhi minister Saurabh Bharadwaj and Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh, marched to the CM’s official residence to refute the BJP’s claims regarding alleged irregularities in the renovation of the bungalow.
The leaders proposed a comparison of the PM’s residence and the CM’s residence, asserting that both should be open for public scrutiny. However, Delhi Police personnel prevented them from entering the premises.
After being denied entry, Bharadwaj and Singh staged a sit-in protest (‘dharna’) outside the residence, engaging in heated exchanges with the police. Speaking to the media, Bharadwaj said, “We came to settle this argument of ‘your house versus my house.’
We believe both the PM’s and CM’s residences should be shown to the public. But we were stopped by the police.”
Delhi BJP chief Virendra Sachdeva also criticized AAP, accusing its leaders of staging theatrics to distract from allegations of corruption in the renovation of the CM’s bungalow, located at 6, Flagstaff Road. Sachdeva questioned the timing of AAP’s insistence on showcasing the residence, stating, “Why didn’t they propose this earlier? Why now, during the model code of conduct, when such actions are restricted?”
The BJP has repeatedly accused the AAP of misusing public funds in the construction of the “Sheesh Mahal.”
Meanwhile, the standoff between AAP leaders and the police has added to the ongoing political tensions as Delhi prepares for assembly elections scheduled on February 5, with vote counting set for February 8.
