Authorities in Delhi have registered over 1,090 cases of alleged violations of the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) since its implementation on January 7, an official reported on Thursday.
The cases were recorded up until February 5 as part of the enforcement measures during the election period.
As per the official statement, Delhi Police have taken extensive action, detaining or apprehending 35,020 individuals under various legal provisions and preventive measures.
Law enforcement has documented 1,098 cases related to MCC violations and intensified crackdowns on illegal arms and contraband.
During the operations, police seized 472 illegal firearms and 534 rounds of ammunition, leading to the arrest of 496 individuals under the Arms Act.
Additionally, a significant amount of illicit liquor—totaling 1,14,699 litres—was confiscated, and 1,423 people were arrested in connection with these seizures.
The crackdown also extended to drug-related offenses, with authorities seizing 206.712 kg of narcotics, estimated to be worth over ₹77.9 crore. Alongside the drugs, more than 1,200 restricted injections were confiscated, resulting in 179 arrests.
These enforcement actions reflect the ongoing efforts of law enforcement agencies to curb electoral malpractices and maintain order during the election period in Delhi.
