The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), eager to establish its first government in Delhi in nearly 30 years, encountered an unexpected hurdle on Thursday when the official X account of the Chief Minister (@CMODelhi) was suddenly renamed @KejriwalAtWork and then deleted.
Outraged, the BJP called for Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena’s intervention. Delhi BJP chief Virendra Sachdeva accused the outgoing Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) of misusing government digital assets, blaming former Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal.
He claimed that under caretaker CM Atishi’s orders, the official account was converted into Kejriwal’s personal handle, calling it a case of “digital loot” that required investigation.
Sachdeva further alleged that Kejriwal had engaged in multiple scams during his tenure, ranging from ration card fraud to liquor-related corruption, and labeled the account deletion an unprecedented act of digital theft.
He demanded a report from the government’s IT Department to identify who authorized the changes.
Kejriwal has yet to comment, but AAP dismissed the BJP’s claims as baseless and urged the party to focus on governance. The political rivalry between AAP and BJP, which intensified during the Delhi elections, continues as the latter prepares to assume power.
Meanwhile, Atishi criticized the BJP over power outages, alleging that within three days of AAP’s exit, over 40 blackouts were reported across the city. Sachdeva refuted these claims, challenging her to specify affected areas instead of making accusations.
As speculation grows over Delhi’s next Chief Minister, former MP Parvesh Verma, who defeated Kejriwal in the New Delhi constituency, is a top contender. This seat, historically held by Delhi’s Chief Minister since 1998, could mark a significant shift in the city’s political landscape.
