Midnight Encounter in Karnal: Police Fire Back, Cow Smuggler Shot in Leg, Partner Escapes

Date:

In a major late-night operation, police in Karnal engaged in an encounter with suspected cow smugglers in the Indri area. The incident took place along the Western Yamuna Canal road, creating panic in the otherwise quiet region.

Police Intercept Turns Into Gunfight

According to officials, the CIA-1 team had received specific inputs about two suspects allegedly involved in cow smuggling who were heading towards Jaunpur on a motorcycle. When police signaled them to stop, the accused tried to flee and allegedly pulled out a pistol.

Within moments, the situation escalated into a gunfight, with the accused opening fire at the police team.

Police Retaliate, One Accused Injured

DSP Satish Gautam said the suspects fired three rounds at the police after finding themselves surrounded. The police team narrowly escaped injury.

In retaliation and self-defense, the police opened fire, during which one of the accused was shot in the leg and fell on the spot. He has been identified as Nakeem (24), a resident of Rana Majra in Panipat.

His accomplice, however, managed to escape by taking advantage of darkness and nearby bushes.

Search Operation Launched for Absconding Accused

Following the encounter, police have intensified search operations across the district to nab the absconding suspect. Multiple teams have been deployed, and checkpoints have been set up.
