AAP national convenor Arvind Kejriwal announced on Monday that the Delhi government would firmly oppose the settlement of Rohingya refugees in the national capital.
Taking a strong stance against the BJP, the former Delhi Chief Minister accused the party of attempting to allocate resources meant for Delhi’s citizens to the refugees.
In a post on X, Kejriwal declared, “We will not allow the BJP to settle Rohingyas in Delhi under any circumstances. The BJP will not be permitted to provide flats, employment, or facilities meant for Delhi’s poor to the Rohingyas.”
Kejriwal’s statement follows Delhi Chief Minister Atishi’s allegation that BJP leaders are facilitating the settlement of Rohingya refugees in the city. Atishi claimed the BJP is assisting their entry from Bangladesh and providing them with EWS flats and other benefits intended for Delhi residents.
She stated, “On one hand, the BJP facilitates the arrival of Rohingyas from Bangladesh and provides them with EWS flats and other resources meant for the people of Delhi. On the other hand, the Aam Aadmi Party government is working tirelessly to ensure that the rights of Delhiites are safeguarded.
Today, the Delhi government’s Education Department has issued strict orders to prevent the admission of Rohingyas in government schools. We will not allow the rights of Delhiites to be compromised!”
The contentious remarks by AAP leaders come as Delhi prepares for Assembly Elections slated for February next year. The Rohingya issue has been a recurring point of conflict between AAP and BJP.
Previously, the BJP had approached the Election Commission, accusing AAP of registering illegal immigrants as voters in Delhi to serve its political interests.
