Later, the UP STF detained him, but he was granted bail in November 2017. However, the UP Government arrested him and slapped him with NSA charges, which were eventually dismissed in 2018.

Later, he established the Azad Samaj Party, the political wing of the Bhim Army, which has significant influence in Saharanpur, Muzaffarnagar, and surrounding areas.

Feel free to indulge yourself in narratives that will keep you hooked until the very last word:

Said Azad, narrating the incident from his hospital bed that:

“I don’t remember well, but my people identified them. Their car went towards Saharanpur. We took a U-Turn. Five of us, including my younger brother, were in the car when the incident occurred.”

Vipin Tada, SSP of Saharanpur, stated:

“The convoy of Chandrashekhar Azad was fired at by a few car-borne armed men. A bullet brushed past him. He is alright and has been taken to CHC for medical treatment. Police are investigating the matter.”

A second official stated that a projectile grazed the Dalit leader’s lower back, causing an abrasion. The bullet entered the car through the side door and dropped in the seat. The tweet below shows the condition of his car after the event took place:

Police sources identified the assailants’ vehicle sported a Haryana license plate. The Bhim Army has issued a statement regarding the assault. The Bhim Army said in a statement:

“The deadly attack on Bhim Army Chief and National President Bhai Chandrasekhar Azad in Deoband of Saharanpur is a cowardly act of stopping the Bahujan Mission Movement! Demands quick arrest of accused, strict action and security of National President Bhai Chandrasekhar Azad ji!”

Azad (36) had gone to a supporter’s house in Saharanpur district’s Deoband, adding that the assailants fired multiple shots at his SUV when he was leaving.
