British prison officer jailed for 15 months after viral sexual video of inmate in cell

Date:

Linda De Sousa Abreu, a former officer at HMP Wandsworth in the UK, has been sentenced to 15 months in prison for misconduct in public office after being caught on video engaging in s*xual activities with an inmate.

The 30-year-old was identified by senior staff after the video went viral online. She was arrested at Heathrow Airport while attempting to fly to Madrid with her father. The incident occurred between June 26 and June 28 at Wandsworth Prison, with additional evidence found on her body-worn camera showing repeated s*xual misconduct with the same inmate.

Judge Martin Edmunds KC stated that the viral video was part of a pattern of behavior rather than an isolated incident.

A Prison Service spokesperson commented, “We’re catching more of the small minority who break the rules by bolstering our Counter Corruption Unit and strengthening our vetting processes. As today’s sentencing demonstrates, we take robust action when staff fail to meet our high standards.”
