Multiple sources claim that Monk died on Monday at his home in Nashville. He was 84.

A small radio station in Geneva was where he got his start; he then moved around to other states before settling in Tennessee, where he has been the most successful.

Monk established a radio show and record label in the country music genre, and he also performed regularly at the Grand Ole Opry.

As a result of his prominence, Monk was honored by being given the title “Mayor of Music Row.”

He wrote songs that were recorded by artists like Eddie Arnold and are credited with helping launch the careers of musicians like Kenny Chesney.

Monk was honored with many accolades throughout his career, but his kind nature and genuine character will be what people remember most about him.
