Couple dies by suicide in Delhi’s Wazirabad, police envestigate

Date:

A couple was found dead in an apparent suicide in the Wazirabad area of Delhi early Wednesday morning, the Delhi Police reported. A PCR call about the incident was received at 3:45 am from Surender Colony, Jharoda, prompting officers to rush to the scene.

The deceased were identified as Nitesh (32), a contractual employee with the Delhi Jal Board, and his wife, a 28-year-old who ran a beauty parlour. The couple had been married for five years and are survived by their four-year-old son, said Deputy Commissioner of Police (North), Raja Banthia.

Police discovered the couple hanging from a ceiling fan in their bedroom on the first floor of a four-storey building, where they lived. Nitesh’s parents reside on the ground floor. According to the DCP, the couple’s child woke up during the night and, upon seeing his parents hanging, alerted his grandparents, who subsequently brought the bodies down.

Investigators found no external injuries on the bodies and did not recover any suicide note from the residence. Mobile phones belonging to the couple have been seized for further investigation, and the bodies have been sent for post-mortem examination, Banthia added.

The tragic incident has raised concerns within the local community. The motive behind the couple’s decision remains unclear as authorities continue their inquiry.
