Delhi BJP claims auto drivers’ support to oust AAP in upcoming elections

Date:

Delhi BJP President Virendra Sachdeva interacted with auto-rickshaw drivers in the capital on Monday, claiming they have pledged to remove the “corrupt” Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government and bring the BJP to power in the 2025 Assembly elections.

Speaking at the state office, Sachdeva stated, “The auto drivers of Delhi have assured full support to the BJP. Arvind Kejriwal and the AAP government have exploited them for years. They are now determined to end this ineffective regime and elect a BJP government.”

He also posted the statement on X, emphasizing the demand for change over excuses.

Last week, AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal met with auto-rickshaw drivers, recalling the party’s grassroots beginnings when he and former Deputy CM Manish Sisodia campaigned using posters on auto-rickshaws.

Meanwhile, AAP spokesperson Priyanka Kakkar criticized the BJP, accusing it of targeting and maligning Kejriwal instead of presenting a development agenda.

AAP recently released its fourth and final list of 38 candidates for the 2025 Delhi Assembly elections. Kejriwal will contest from New Delhi, CM Atishi from Kalkaji, Saurabh Bharadwaj from Greater Kailash, and Gopal Rai from Babarpur.

The list includes two new faces, while the remaining 36 candidates are sitting MLAs. Notable names include Satyendra Kumar Jain (Shakur Basti), Durgesh Pathak (Rajinder Nagar), and Ramesh Pehalwan (Kasturba Nagar). AAP has also fielded Pooja Naresh Balyan from Uttam Nagar.

In contrast, the Congress, which governed Delhi for 15 years, has struggled in recent elections, failing to win a single seat in 2015 and 2020. In 2020, AAP dominated with 62 seats, while the BJP secured eight.
