Delhi CEO launches ‘Myth vs Facts Register’ to tackle fake news ahead of assembly elections

Date:

In preparation for the upcoming Delhi Assembly elections on February 5, Delhi’s Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), R Alice Vaz, has introduced the “Myth vs Facts Register” to counter misinformation and disinformation.

This initiative seeks to enhance transparency and promote accurate information during the election period.

The “Myth vs Facts Register,” available online at ceodelhi.gov.in, is designed to debunk fake news and misleading claims, particularly those circulating on social media.

Acting as a repository of verified facts, the platform provides credible updates to voters and media outlets, ensuring they have access to reliable information.

“This initiative empowers citizens to make informed decisions during elections by promoting transparency and accuracy,” said Vaz.

She emphasized that the portal would be dynamically updated by the CEO’s office to ensure voters have uninterrupted access to verified information throughout the election process.

The move underscores the electoral body’s commitment to strengthening democratic practices and fostering responsible communication across media platforms.

By combating the spread of false information, the initiative not only supports informed voter decision-making but also reinforces public trust in the democratic system.

While this marks a significant step for the Delhi elections, it is not the first instance of such an effort.

During the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, the Election Commission of India (ECI) launched a similar platform called the “Myth vs Reality Register” to enhance transparency and combat misinformation.

With the “Myth vs Facts Register,” the Delhi CEO aims to safeguard voters from the harmful effects of fake news, ensuring a more transparent and trustworthy electoral process.
