Delhi schools to conduct hybrid classes for classes IX and XI amid air quality concerns

Date:

The Delhi Government’s Directorate of Education has directed all schools in the National Capital Region to adopt hybrid learning for students up to Classes IX and XI following the reimposition of GRAP-III and GRAP-IV restrictions due to deteriorating air quality.

The directive applies to all Government, Government-Aided, Unaided Recognized Private Schools, and those under the jurisdiction of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD), New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC), and Delhi Cantonment Board.

It mandates a blend of physical and online classes to ensure flexibility for students while addressing the challenges posed by pollution.

The official notice specifies, “All Heads of Schools of Govt., Govt. Aided, Unaided Recognized Private Schools of DOE, NDMC, MCD, and Delhi Cantonment Board are directed to conduct classes for children up to Class IX & XI in a ‘Hybrid Mode,’ i.e., both in physical and online mode.”

This measure is part of a series of efforts to mitigate the adverse effects of Delhi’s persistently poor air quality, which often worsens during this time of year.

The hybrid model aims to reduce the exposure of young students to hazardous environmental conditions while ensuring that their education continues uninterrupted.

The decision underscores the government’s commitment to balancing public health concerns with the need to maintain academic continuity.

Schools are expected to implement the directive immediately, providing students and parents the option to choose between attending classes physically or virtually, depending on their comfort and circumstances.
