After an argument, Khushid was shot and killed.

The villagers say they’ve heard that when Khurshid still lived there, he worked as a laborer. On the day of the incident, he had left the house after dinner and returned late in the evening.

Meanwhile, three bikers from Ratanpuri pulled up to stop him. After an argument with Khurshid, the attackers allegedly murdered Farmani’s brother.

A Deoband cleric deemed Naaz’s performance of the holy hymn ‘Har Har Shambhu,’ which praises Lord Shiva, to be “un-Islamic” and “haram” (prohibited) last year.

When asked why she sang Har Har Shambhu, Farmani Naaz said, “Artists don’t have religion.”

Muzaffarnagar native Naaz stood up for herself, claiming that artists do not need a religion and that she had done nothing wrong. In addition to her 4.5 million YouTube fans, she competed in Season 12 of the singing reality show Indian Idol.
