Early Years Of Kumar Sanu

On October 20, 1957, Kumar Sanu was born in Kolkata, West Bengal. He lived with his father and older sister in the Kolkata neighbourhood known as Sindhi. His father, Pashupati Bhattacharya Kumar, was also a musician and performer; his real name is Kedarnath Bhattacharya. He gave Sanu lessons on how to play the tabla and sing the song.

After graduating from the University of Calcutta with a degree in commerce, Sanu began giving regular performances in 1979. In addition, he started performing professionally in 1984, singing at gatherings and cafés all across Calcutta. Kishore Kumar, an Indian singer, influenced his style of singing. Later on, he developed his unique singing style.

Kumar Sanu’s Professional Career

The career of Kumar Sanu can be broken down into two segments because he faced hardships before becoming well-known as a vocalist in Bollywood.

The First Stage Of Life

Music director and singer Jagjit Singh gave Sanu a chance to perform in the 1987 Hindi film Andhiyan. After that, Sanu relocated to Mumbai, where he was permitted to sing in the Kalyanji-Anandji movie Jadoogar.

He was advised to change his name from Kedar Bhattacharya to Kumar Sanu by Kalyanji-Anandji because of the widespread caste and region-based prejudice in Bollywood. He goes on to say that this will increase his appeal beyond an audience that is mostly Bengali.

A 90s-Era Career

1990 saw Sanu have a significant impact on Bollywood with the release of Aashiqui. Except for one song, Sanu recorded every song from the film, courtesy of composer Nadeem-Shravan. Overnight, Sanu gained inexplicable fame. He sang several popular Aashiqui songs, including Tu meri Zindagi hain, Sanson ki zaroorat hai jaise, Nazar ke saamne, and others. He has also sung “Chand Sitare” from Hrithik Roshan’s debut film “Kaho Naa Pyaar Hai”.

Following all of these big hits with Nadeem-Shravan, music fans started to favour Sanu highly. While he also won five straight Oscars for best playback singer, his fame grew steadily. His vocals were heard in numerous popular films, including Deewana, Sadak, Baazigar, Pardes, Saajan, and others.
