Ranveer Allahbadia Faces FIR Over Obscene Remarks on ‘India’s Got Latent’

Date:

Renowned YouTuber and podcaster Ranveer Allahbadia, popularly known as ‘BeerBiceps’, has been embroiled in controversy following his participation as a guest judge on the YouTube show ‘India’s Got Latent’. An FIR has been registered against him and others for allegedly promoting obscenity during the show.

Details of the FIR

The Assam Police have filed an FIR against Ranveer Allahbadia, comedian Samay Raina, and YouTuber Ashish Chanchlani, among others, citing their involvement in vulgar and sexually explicit discussions on ‘India’s Got Latent’. Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma confirmed the registration of the FIR in a social media post.

Controversial Episode

The controversy centers on an episode where Allahbadia posed an inappropriate question to a contestant, asking, “Would you rather watch your parents have sex every day for the rest of your life or join in once to make it stop forever?” This remark led to widespread outrage, with many deeming it offensive and in poor taste.

Public and Political Reactions

The episode has sparked significant backlash on social media, with users expressing outrage over the content. Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis commented on the issue, stating, “Everyone has freedom of speech, but our freedom ends when we encroach upon the freedom of others… In our society, we have made some rules; if someone violates them, it is absolutely wrong, and action should be taken against them.”

Ranveer Allahbadia’s Apology

In response to the backlash, Allahbadia issued a video apology, acknowledging that his comment was inappropriate and unfunny. He stated, “My comment was not appropriate; it wasn’t even funny. Comedy is not my forte. I am just here to say sorry.” He also confirmed that the controversial segments had been removed from the show’s recording.

Conclusion

The FIR against Ranveer Allahbadia and his co-panelists underscores the ongoing debate over content boundaries in digital media. As the investigation progresses, it raises important questions about the balance between creative expression and societal norms.
