Richaun Holmes Illness: On the court for the NBA’s Sacramento Kings is American pro basketball player Richaun Diante Holmes (born October 15, 1993). (NBA). He was an All-Mid-American Conference selection during his time with the Bowling Green Falcons basketball team. After three years with the 76ers, the 2018 offseason saw Holmes traded to the Suns. After one season with the Suns, he moved on to play for the Kings in the 2019 offseason.
High School And College Career
Both of Holmes’ parents hold Doctorates in Divinity and lead a church in the Chicago area. Holmes went from being a guard with a height of 6’2″ to a forward with a wingspan of 6’9″ while in high school, but he didn’t start getting scholarship offers from Division I schools until after he had already committed to playing for Moraine Valley Community College.
Holmes scored 19.3 points per game, grabbed 9.3 rebounds per contest, and blocked 5.2 shots per contest in his lone season at Moraine Valley. All-American honors in junior college led to a transfer from Holmes to Bowling Green State University.
Holmes scored 6.5 points, grabbed 5.0 boards, and blocked 2.3 shots per game as a sophomore for Bowling Green. As a junior, he more than doubled his scoring average and also averaged 7.7 boards and 2.5 blocks per game. Holmes hired coach Chris Jans to help him develop his entire game, including a three-point shot. He would sometimes take a thousand shots in practice to get better. As a senior, he shot 56.3% from the field and 41.9% from deep, averaging 14.7 points, 8.0 rebounds, and 2.7 blocks per game. Richaun Holmes: Amateur Career
Through hard work and dedication, Richaun Holmes was able to develop his height from a guard 6’2″ to a forward 6’9″ while still in high school. Before committing to Moraine Valley Community College, however, he did not receive any scholarship offers from Division I colleges for basketball.
In his lone season at Moraine Valley, Richaun averaged 19.3 points, 9.3 boards, and 5.2 blocks per game.
Holmes received All-American honors in junior college before transferring to Bowling Green.

For the Sixers, Holmes became a regular in the lineup in February 2017 after the team dealt for Nerlens Noel, Joel Embiid went down for an extended period of time due to an injury, and Holmes outplayed Jahlil Okafor.
For example, he helped the 76ers beat the Washington Wizards 120-112 on February 24, 2017, by scoring 12 points, grabbing 10 rebounds, and blocking 5 shots.
Career High Records
On March 20, 2017, against the Orlando Magic, Richaun scored 24 points (tying his career high) and grabbed 14 rebounds (also a personal best).
Nine days later, in a 99-92 loss to the Atlanta Hawks, he scored a career-high 25 points.
On October 8, 2017, Holmes sustained a non-displaced fracture to the radial bone in his left wrist, sidelining him for three weeks.
The 76ers announced on June 13, 2018, that they had picked up Holmes’ fourth-year contract option.
Injury
Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN reports that Richaun Holmes began complying with health and safety procedures on January 1, 2022.
This was terrible timing for Holmes, who had just returned to the lineup after missing seven games with an eye injury.
In the five games since returning from injury, both Holmes’ minutes and his output have decreased.
Damian Jones, who has contributed some solid minutes in his absence, was likely relied upon by Sacramento.
This meant that either Alex Len or Tristan Thompson would be moving into the starting lineup.
Richaun Holmes: Family
A doctor of divinity himself, Richaun Holmes is the son of Richard and Lydia Holmes.
Their parents who valued honesty and hard work instilled those qualities in them.
Even though he was the senior pastor at Morning View “Word” Church in Chicago, Richard Sr. was a fierce competitor on the basketball court and in the bowling alley.
His mother, like him, is a public speaker and church volunteer. Around the age of eight, Richaun started crediting God with his basketball prowess.
