Gurpatwant Singh Pannu, founder of Sikhs For Justice (SFJ), dispelled widespread death rumors on Wednesday (5 July), saying he is still alive and based in New York. Aditya Raj Kaul, a journalist, reportedly learned the information from Gurpatwant Singh Pannu, a terrorist with the Khalistani separatist group, via a message.
Received early morning message from Khalistani designated SFJ terrorist Gurpatwant Singh Pannun confirming that he is alive and in New York. And issuing a fresh threat to Indian diplomats in Canada, USA, Australia and UK. End of rumours and speculation on his death for now.

Similarly, on Wednesday, Canadian-based South Asian news portal Parvasi Media released a video claiming that other news outlets had incorrectly reported that Pannu had died in an accident.
There have been rumors that Pannu died in a car crash in New York.

Paramjit Singh Panjwar, a Khalistani supporter, was shot dead in Lahore, Pakistan in May before Nijjar. On June 15, Birmingham, UK, self-proclaimed Khalistani chieftain Avtar Singh Khanda died.
