After his bout with Griffin, Bonnar, who had previously stated that he did not believe he would have a career as a UFC fighter, stated that “everything changed.”

“It seems as though overnight I rose to the level of a celebrity. “No matter where I went, even the most obscure locations, I was always recognized by someone,” Bonnar said.

The native of Indiana competed against Rashad Evans, Mark Coleman, Anderson Silva, and Tito Ortiz during the course of his career. All four fighters would go on to be inducted into the Hall of Fame.

Before being inducted into the UFC Hall of Fame in 2013, Bonnar finished his career with 15 victories in 24 fights. During that time, he competed in the organization.

Joe Rogan, a commentator for the UFC, wrote a moving post on Instagram in which he referred to Bonnar as “a legend” and said that Bonnar “will never be forgotten.”
