Final Call: Free Aadhaar Updates Ending Soon—Act Before September 14!

A crucial deadline is approaching for Aadhaar holders: the opportunity to update your details for free will conclude on September 14. This deadline comes after several extensions, the most recent of which was granted on June 14, adding three months. Previous extensions were also made on March 14 and December 15 of last year.

The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has confirmed that September 14 is the final date for making these updates at no cost. While it remains unclear whether further extensions will be offered, Aadhaar users are strongly advised to update their information soon to avoid a last-minute rush.

What Can Be Updated Online?

Aadhaar holders can conveniently update their address online by providing valid Proof of Identity (POI) and Proof of Address (POA) documents. Importantly, this service will be free if your address hasn’t been updated in the last decade. However, it’s essential to ensure that your mobile number linked to your Aadhaar account is active. One-Time Passwords (OTPs) will be sent to this number for verification during the update process.

For updates involving your name, mobile number, or photo, you will need to visit a UIDAI-authorized center in person.

Step-by-Step Guide to Updating Aadhaar Online

Follow these easy steps to update your Aadhaar details online:

  1. Visit the Aadhaar Self-Service Portal on the UIDAI website  https://uidai.gov.in/
  2. Log In using your Aadhaar number, complete the Captcha, and enter the OTP sent to your registered mobile number.
  3. Navigate to the Document Update section to review your current details.
  4. Choose the relevant document type from the options provided and upload scanned copies of the original documents for verification.
  5. Keep track of your Service Request Number to monitor the status of your update.
