Advocates argue that introducing ucc would ensure equality for muslim women, freeing them from practices like polygamy, child marriage, and fears associated with arbitrary divorce (triple talaq) and financial insecurity (alimony issues).
Critics blame previous governments, particularly congress, for not implementing ucc due to appeasement politics. The push for ucc is now being seen as a step toward equality and justice for all citizens, irrespective of religion.
