12-year-old detained for bomb threat email to Delhi school

Date:

A 12-year-old boy was detained for sending a bomb threat email to his school in South Delhi’s Vasant Vihar area, police sources revealed on Saturday, December 14, 2024. The school was one of 30 in Delhi that received similar threat emails on Friday, December 13.

The student was quickly identified and apprehended. Following counseling and a warning to his parents, he was released, the sources added.

During questioning, the boy confessed that he had sent the email after seeing news reports about other schools in Delhi receiving similar threats. He believed he would not be caught, as no arrests had been made in previous incidents.

This marked the third instance of bomb threat emails targeting schools in Delhi that week. Earlier, on Monday, December 9, 44 schools had reportedly received similar emails. A comprehensive search operation was carried out across the 30 schools that received threats on Friday, but no suspicious objects were found.

The Delhi Police Special Cell has registered a case of criminal intimidation and conspiracy but has not yet identified the culprits behind the broader pattern of threats.

Such incidents have been on the rise, with over 250 schools, hospitals, and other institutions in the capital receiving bomb threat emails in May 2024. None of these cases have been resolved so far, raising concerns about the effectiveness of law enforcement in curbing the trend.
