4 Injured in Accident at Delhi-Meerut RRTS Construction Site. A construction accident at the Delhi-Meerut Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) site on the outskirts of Meerut resulted in injuries to four laborers.

The incident occurred during slab-making procedures when a temporary support structure collapsed. Prompt action was taken by authorities to provide medical assistance and remove debris from the site.

In the early hours of Monday, a mishap occurred at the Shatabdi Nagar section of the Delhi-Meerut RRTS construction site, leaving four laborers injured.

The accident was caused by the collapse of a temporary support structure while concrete was being poured to give shape to the structure on Sunday night.

At the time of the incident, eight laborers were present at the spot:

Puneet Vats, Chief Public Relations Officer (CPRO) of the National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC), reported that out of the injured, two laborers, Bhola Singh, and Chandan Kumar, sustained serious injuries and were immediately taken to a nearby hospital.

All eight workers were thoroughly examined at the hospital. He clarified that despite rumors of fatalities, no casualties occurred.

Debris Removal Procedures:

Following the accident, authorities promptly initiated debris removal procedures, and senior police and administrative officials rushed to the site to assess the situation.

They coordinated with the construction officials to ensure immediate medical assistance for the injured workers. The Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut RRTS corridor, India’s first Regional Rapid Transit System, is being constructed for Rs 30,270 crore.

The project aims to reduce commuting time between Delhi and Meerut to just 50 minutes. It consists of 24 stations, with approximately 70.5km of elevated track and 11.5km underground. The corridor spans 82 km in total.

The RRTS project is undertaken by the National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC), a joint venture of the central government (50%) and the state governments of Haryana, NCT Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, and Rajasthan (12.5% each).

The agency is responsible for designing, constructing, financing, operating, and maintaining the RRTS in the National Capital Region.
