Celebrating 25 Years: Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Visit to France and UAE

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is on a two-day official visit to France from July 13 to 14, where he will meet President Emmanuel Macron and attend the Bastille Day Parade as the guest of honor. The visit is expected to enhance the strategic partnership between India and France in various domains such as defense, space, trade, and investment.

Bilateral Talks With Macron: Prime Minister Modi will hold formal talks with President Macron at the Elysee Palace on July 14, where they will discuss ways to take forward cooperation in a range of key areas, including defense and security, climate change, counter-terrorism, maritime security, and digital transformation.

They will also participate in the India-France CEO Forum and interact with prominent French personalities. The two leaders are likely to announce major new defense deals, including the acquisition of 26 more Rafale fighter jets and three Scorpene class submarines for the Indian Navy, as well as a potential collaboration for 100 percent technology transfer for jet engine technology that powers Indian advanced light helicopters.

This year marks the 25th anniversary of the India-France strategic partnership. Bastille Day Parade: Prime Minister Modi will be the guest of honor at the annual Bastille Day Parade on July 14, where he will witness the tri-services Indian armed forces contingent participating in the parade. Three Rafale jets of the Indian Air Force will also join the flypast along with French jets. The parade will showcase the close defense ties between India and France.

Bastille Day is France’s national day, commemorating the storming of the Bastille prison on July 14, 1789, a turning point of the French Revolution. It is celebrated with a grand military and civilian parade on the Champs-Elysees in Paris.

Visit to UAE: After concluding his visit to France, Prime Minister Modi will travel to Abu Dhabi on July 15, where he will talk with Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces. The two leaders will discuss ways to strengthen the comprehensive strategic partnership between India and UAE in various fields such as energy, education, healthcare, food security, fintech, defense, and culture.

They will also exchange views on regional and global issues of mutual interest, especially in the context of the UAE’s Presidency of COP-28 of the UNFCCC and India’s G-20 Presidency, in which the UAE is a special invitee.
