Sonipat-Delhi Metro project progressing rapidly, set for completion by 2028

Date:

The Sonipat-Delhi metro project, part of Delhi Metro’s Phase 4 expansion, is advancing swiftly and is expected to be completed before 2028. Designed to enhance connectivity between the two cities, the project aims to benefit thousands of daily commuters.

New metro stations at Kundli and Nathupur in Sonipat will significantly improve accessibility for those traveling to Delhi. Authorities are actively addressing land acquisition and technical challenges to ensure smooth execution.

Recently, DS Dhesi, Principal Advisor of the Haryana Urban Development Authority (HUDA), held a meeting with officials from the Haryana Mass Rapid Transport Corporation and the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) to review the project’s progress. Discussions covered key issues such as roadwork, land acquisition, and the relocation of electricity poles.

The metro corridor will feature 21 stations along a 26.5 km stretch, starting from Rithala and extending to Nathupur, passing through areas like Rohini, Bawana, and Narela.

The total cost of the project is estimated at ₹6,230 crore, with ₹5,685.22 crore allocated for the Delhi section and ₹545.77 crore for the Haryana portion. The state government will contribute 80% of the funding, while the central government will cover the remaining 20%.

The metro line is expected to serve approximately 50,000 daily commuters, easing travel to key locations such as Bawana, Narela, Nangloi, and Najafgarh.

Beyond improving transportation, the project will boost economic growth in Sonipat, creating new job opportunities. A dedicated committee has been formed to ensure seamless connectivity at Nathupur metro station, with officials scheduled to inspect the site by February 23.

Upon completion, the metro is expected to transform Sonipat into a major commercial and residential hub while reducing road congestion and pollution.
